Malawian Smoked Guava - Satemwa Tea Estate
This premium smoked black tea has the evocative aroma of smokey camp fires, with an underlying taste that is much more gentle and smooth, bringing you a lovely, well-balanced cup of smoked black tea.
It comes from Malawi's highest elevation tea garden - The Satemwa Estate, located on the slopes of the beautiful Thyolo mountain along Africa’s Great Rift Valley - producing a Malawian version of Lapsang Souchong. They've produced this delicate orthodox hand-processed black tea which is beautifully scented with the smoke of guava wood.
Food pairing: Smoked salmon (what a pairing!) and other large fish, red meats, chicken, cheese, lemon.
More about The Satemwa Estate: It's a third generation family business, employing more than 2000 local workers who are provided with education and health services to help raise standards of living. They have a big focus on the environment too, and they’ve developed wildlife corridors - strips of forest between fields - as homes to an array of flora and fauna. In 2007 Satemwa became the first Fairtrade registered tea estate in Malawi, and this was followed by UTZ and Rainforest Alliance certifications soon after.
